RE: Awning Situation

Pittsworld,
Sorry you're having problems.
Since the tube is still somewhat operational, you might want to wait until your travels are complete before attempting any fix.
Considering that I am certainly not an expert on the matter, here's what I think I would try.
Roll the awning out until the bow is postitioned straight down. Now, place a support (2"x4") under the bow at the lowest point. Lay a straight edge across the tube to determine the extent of the bow and gauge the amount of "force" to be applied. Have someone support the vertical brace while two others pull down carefully (slowly) until an acceptable degree of pre damage condition is accomplished. Use the straight edge to gage your progress.
As I said, you might wait until you are home just in case you have total failure of the system. I know my suggested repair is marginal at best, however, since the tube is already ruined... what the heck. Or you could just "live" with it.
Let us know how you make out.
Good luck,
Robert

RE: Strange question/observation on waste line hoses

Quote: "They are not stretchable. There is no claim on the box how to make a hose double in length. Now I have to go out and buy another 20 footer because I need 10 more feet."
Maybe it's in the small print....
Ten feet out and ten feet back equals twenty feet! There is also the possibility that the manufacturer has "small" feet. :E LOL

RE: Questions About Suburban Gas Furnace

Ottawa Campers ,
If the fan is still an issue (again, I am not an expert on this), It would be my guess that the control for cycling the fan is this instance is in the heater itself. It could be that all of that heat going into the intake had damaged the sensor in some way.
My fan runs for about thirty seconds to a minute before the heater fires and after set temps are reached the burner shuts down and the fan follows (shuts down) about a minute later.
Concerning your thermostat, take it off the wall and check for loose connections or a faulty switch. Also check the connection at the heater proper.
As you may have read on the forums, the Hunter Digital Thermostat is an easy upgrade and many, myself included, are very happy with the results. In addition to the posts on this site about the Hunter upgrade, there a numerous posts (with pictures & diagrams) on the CrossRoads RV Forums boards. Although, you might want to try to get your current problem sorted out before you toss the digital upgrade into the mix. Then again, if the problem IS your current thermostat this would lend itself nicely to the upgrade.
On Edit: Sorry, I posted without seeing the above post by "Doug.'" Ya, what he said. LOL.
Good luck,
Robert

RE: Excellent customer service experience, Buddeez

It really makes you day, doesn't it. I have had some experiences like yours. Once I actually broke something and the seller knew it was totally my fault, still they shipped a replacement that day (they even paid the shipping) and asked me to return the damaged item as soon as I could. I guess I should have complained because I had to pay the return shipping charges..... easy now, just joking.
Now, the item was only worth about thirty dollars, but still that single act spoke volumes about their company. You can't buy advertising such as this. It's strange some companies will spend tens of thousands of dollars on advertising and than balk at a simple (low cost) good will act.
I think we have all seen both sides of this issue posted many times.
Thanks for sharing your good experience. It's refreshing.
See you out there,

RE: Questions About Suburban Gas Furnace

I believe you should cover that outlet without the ducting. I know it's difficult to get your hand back there, but feel around in there. A mirror would be helpful. You just might find the metal cover that is missing. You might want to use some aluminum tape on all the covers to assure that they stay in place. It is common to find that these covers have come lose.
As for the fan. It runs before ignition as a safety measure to clear any possible gas pockets and continues to run after shut down (I think) for the same reason. The fan may also run as long as it is moving heated air (as in home units) to be more efficient. Not sure about all of this. I am sure other will correct me and help US out.
I hope this helps,
Robert

RE: Do you disconnect battery during storage??

Not only do I disconnect the battery but I also remove the battery.
I then put the battery in my shop, clean the terminals and check the water level. It goes on a trickle charge from time to time thru out the off season... T-10
Ditto. This also assures that you will actually have a battery for your next adventure. Since the battery in not left in the trailer, I also leave that compartment unlocked. This reduces the chance of suffering a broken lock and/or damaged compartment door.
In my case, I only have one house battery which make taking the battery home a simple task.
My fifth wheel is stored at a storage facility, so this works for me. Of course, if you store your RV at you home different measures may apply.
See you out there,

RE: The rudest thing I've seen....In a while...

There are times when one (myself) just has to be rude, as in the following encounter I had with another camper:
I was peacefully sitting in MY designated site when this guy (probably from "California") rides up on his bicycle and ask me if I could tell him what time it is. Of course, I just ignored him. Then this fool repeats the same question, and again, I ignored him. He proceeds to look at me as if I were speaking a foreign language. He then repeats his request for the third time, only this time louder, why (louder) I don't know. SIR, I CAN SEE YOUR ARE WEARING A WATCH, WOULD YOU PLEASE GIVE ME THE TIME? I just continued to ignore him, never said a word He looked at me as if I was crazy and rode off. Wow, how rude was that?
My wife came out of our fiver after having witnessed this exchange and asked me, "didn't you hear that man asking you for the time?" Yes, I replied. "Then why on earth didn't you tell him what time it is," she queried.
I then explained to her my reasoning as follows:
So this total stranger comes up to me while I'm in "MY" space and ask what time it is and I ignore him, case closed. However, had I given this STRANGER the time, it would have left me wide open for a session of general chitchat. So, now were talking, we find out we have a lot in common and he seems to be a nice guy, so I asked him to sit down and have a beer. You (my wife) then joins the conversation only to discover that one, he is about the same age as our daughter and two, he is single.
About this time our daughter comes back from the pool and joins in the conversation. Well now you (my wife) and our daughter get a little giddy and decide to ask the man back for dinner.
Of course, one thing leads to another and before you know it, our daughter starts dating this "rude California!" Shortly thereafter, this rude man asks our daughter to marry her and they eventually get married and live happily ever after! See what I mean?
You (my wife) say, "well what's so bad about that, I would be thrilled to have our daughter marry the man she loves and be happy."
Yes dear, I reply..... you just don't get it, do you?" I just don't want our daughter marrying a rude man from California that either can't tell time or is too cheap to buy a watch! :S
My point is, lighten up and enjoy yourself. We are, all of us, young and old a blink away from awakening on the wrong side of the grass.
Many times I have had people inquire as to the status of "our" space. Why should that offend me? Why would I want to have someone set-up in a less than desirable space only to have me vacate "my" site ten minutes later? Everyone wants a good spot. As with love and life, if you don't ask you'll never know.
I have gone so far as to leave my site early to allow others to set up and avoid moving again or even helped them back into a temporary site while I completed preparations for my departure. Guess what, it didn't hurt a bit. It made me feel good that I had helped a fellow traveler and hopefully got him/her off to a good start for a great stay.
I don't even mind if some one has a need to walk through my site (with reason) if they just give me the courtesy of asking. I really don't think that fifteen second "intrusion" two or three times a day is going to ruin my day, week or year. Heck, who knows, this "intrusion" may even lead to new friendships. You never know when you may need a favor (hand) yourself. I once had one of these "intruders" notice that my flashlight had somehow gotten knocked to the ground and was somewhat obscured from view. That simple courtesy that I had extended possibly prevented me from crawling around at night in search of that flashlight, thinking things like, if I only had a flashlight it would make it easier to find my flashlight. LOL
Now that being said......
Of course, I wouldn't want my son or daughter to marry a woman or man that is too lazy to walk one hundred yards to the showers when they can cut it down to fifty feet by "ruining my entire week" by simply passing by for fifteen seconds! LOL :B

RE: Hole in RV Entry Door

I had a similar situation. High wind caught the door when my wife opened it from the inside. It (the wind) took the door out of her hand and like the OP, I suffered a nice puncture in the door after it struck the door stop.
I think our fiver was about one month old at the time. I was sick about it, to say the least. The solution actually worked out okay. I used one those stick-on disk (rubbery plastic) that are applied to drywall to keep door knobs from damaging the wall. Covers nicely and protects from any repeat performances.
After some time the disk will yellow, no problem, just apply a new one..... they are cheap.
Oh, and by the way, you will smile once again!
I hope this helps.
On Edit: I just realized this would not work as well for you as my fix looks like it belongs there, being a door stop situation. Sorry about that.

RE: Shower now dumps to the Grey Tank, YEAH!

companies do plum the shower or the bathroom sink to the black tank for two reasons, one to get adequate water into it, and secondly because in general the grey tank fills up first. I would not consider it to be a mistake or defect myself.
bumpy
Darn it Bumpy, I am afraid that I have to agree with you on this one. LOL :S.........
I know that my bathroom sink gray goes to the black tank for the very reasons you state. However, I am not sure about the shower. I never had a problem with the black tank filling too fast. Of course, there are many variables as to how one camps and impacts the various holding and supply systems.

RE: stereo remote ?

I have an auto type receiver (with remote) in my fifth wheel and I can use it from outside. However, I need to be within about six feet of the trailer and aiming (with the door open) through the screen. This is without a straight shot at the receiver. The receiver is located on the opposite side of the trailer. Use of the remote through a closed window is marginal even with a direct line of sight. I believe with newer receivers the "straight shot" is less of an issue.
Many home systems have a jack (RIF/IRF?) that can be used to plug-in an extension of the remote sensor. This would be the way to go if your receiver has that ability. I don't know, if cost wise, it would be worth it to have it modified. I would think that the extension IR would be available at Radio Shack or a like retailer. You may even be able to find some sort of remote booster that is wireless, should your receiver not have the above mentioned jack.
I also have my iPod connected to the receiver and I can power, read, and operate all functions remotely (iPod) as well.
If you are upgrading, don't overlook the speakers. A little upgrade there is VERY worthwhile.
I hope this helps.
On Edit: Yes, what "itsalleasy" posted. I think mine is a Sony as well.... I guess It's time for a little outing if I can't even remember what brand of receiver I have. LOL :S

RE: Yikes! Did I just eat Kentucky Wild Boar bacon?!!!!

So, this man is in front of a judge accused of shooting and eating a bald eagle.
The judge proceeds to lecture the man on how serious his actions were and that he should be on his knees begging for mercy. He then ask the man if he has anything to say before he pronounces his sentence.
The man looks the judge straight in the eyes and as he begins to speak a tear comes to his eye. Your Honor, I know what I have done is unforgivable. However, I only did it because my family was starving and I had no other choice. Can you ever forgive me?
The judge, impressed in the defendants honesty and his situation comes down off the bench, puts his are around the man and tells him that all charges are dropped. You are free to go.
As the man is leaving the court room, the judge calls out to him.... sir, just out of curiosity, what does bald eagle taste like?
The former defendant politely replies..... kind of a cross between manatee and panda bear but not quite as chewy! :S

Dometic could "fix" this easily for about a hundred bucks. Just put a metal shield around the boom so in the event it fails, it won't fall on the bridge or the traffic lanes below. No problem. LOL :E

RE: If my TV is pluged into the fifth wheel

my turn...thanks for your all input..my fiver is also a toy hauler with a built in onan 5.5...that can recharge all...yes it's a chevy as mentioned..one more thing i was told with my truck that my #2 battery is a deep cycle rv( new)...#1 is a nice new big group starting battery...anyway i was told that the truck clicks off atomaticly when power gets too low on the starting battery...so it will always start..anyone one else herd of this?...oh crazy ray..i'm not sure what the size of the solar unit is?..its all new..how do you tell?it has a deluxe Go Power digital pro 25 amp regulator...the roof top is like 2' x 3'?
i have heard of set-ups along these lines used in marine applications. A certain amount of voltage is available for "house" application while maintaining (reserving) the necessary voltage to start the engine. Of course, the better set-up is independent start and house batteries. in my boat, I have two house batteries (4-D's true deep cycles) that can be isolated and an independent (8-D) start battery. This eliminates a lot of the start concern. Another nice feature it that if necessary, i can combine all three batteries for starting the engine if necessary.
i believe a lot of motor homes have a similar set up.
Sorry, I know i got a little off topic. :S

RE: Family Oriented Campground - NOT!

I agree that some concession could have been made. please no flaming, I know the park is in business to make money and they have overhead and so on..... but wouldn't it have made since not to have parted company with a possible future customer in this way?
It too bad that you did not know someone in the area that could have gone by the park and checked on YOUR space. There is a good chance that someone else was using it and paying full price.
I had something like this happen to me in an RV storage yard. I was asking to get a pro-rated months rent so I could change storage areas. No problem with the space, I just found one closer to my house. Well, it was a no go on the pro-rate. I moved the RV mid-month so I would not lose the new space.
A couple of days later I went by the old storage space and.... you guessed it, there was a trailer in MY space. Needless to say, you know what hit the fan. I got my pro-rated refund.
Sorry, long story. I feel better now! :B

RE: DRY BATTERY...NEED HELP

I am not an expert on this subject, however from what I have read on the forums, I afraid you battery is, as they say, toast. I don't know if you are risking damage to your converter trying to charge the once dry battery. My guess is that it's not a good thing.
I believe that I have read that there some additives (and methods) available that can help in the effort to revive the damaged battery, but I think these are just temporary fixes.
Personally, I would just bite the bullet and get a new battery. You will sleep better and you converter and you, will once again, be a 'happy camper.'

RE: Another Generator Question (sorry)

SETenn,
I would think that a 1000 watt generator would have no problem charging the batteries. I assume you will be charging through a converter. If so, remember that when you power the converter there are other 110 volt items in you RV that will automatically switch from 12 volt to 110 unless you have the controls on these items set to maintain the 12 volt mode.
If you are just doing routine charging of the batteries, the other items switching to 110 volt may not be an issue. Whatever method you use to charge the batteries, (converter or regular battery charger) check the specs for the maximum wattage draw. This will give you an idea of the power needed.
Yes, just plug into the generator (adapter ?) as you would stationary shore power.
If I were you, I would consider getting a 2000 watt generator, that way you will have plenty of reserve for your situation and if desired or needed you could also run some other 110 volt items. I know you stated that you normally are using shore power, however you never know when the parks power may fail or if you get the desire to "rough it" the 2000 watt would be a real plus.
As for what generator to purchase, there many threads (wars, LOL) on this site debating that issue and I am sure you will get varying views. Personally, I have two Honda 2000's and I am quite happy with the set up. Actually never have had the need to combine the two, but as I mentioned, it is nice to have options if needed.
I hope this helps.

RE: More Arizona speed camera's

I think the government should put camera's in our homes to make sure we are eating healthy. I going to take a wild guess that more people die or are injured from heart disease than speeding.
LOL :)
Okay, now that I have your attention, I saw something very amusing yesterday on television. I was was one of those show's like COP's or Beach Patrol wherein they feature officials intervention with the public. This particular one was filmed at Dumont Dunes an off-road riding area. (I think it is in California, North-West of Baker) Anyway, this sheriff gives this guy on an ATV a ticket for not having his helmet strapped. Also included was a long lecture by the sheriff on the law and the need to wear and STRAP his helmet. When finished, the SHERIFF rides off into the sunset on his ATV...... with his helmet unstrapped! :S
As to the governments concern for our safety.... don't ... on my leg and tell me it's raining. it's about the money, always has been and always will. As with most things the government does FOR YOU, follow the money!
By the way, I am not a speeder. I just get a little tired of Big Brother and the Nanny State mentality.
